startup meeting plan

Educational institutes are a world of their own. These institutes teach many lessons and provide unique experiences to its students. In short, every institute has something to offer not just to its students, but to anyone who walks through its doors.

Have you ever wondered how the experience differs for those who go to a digital business school? Known for being a perfectly nurturing place for creative and innovative minds, digital business schools offer a different experience as compared to contemporary business schools.

Let us have a look at how the educational life is for a student enrolled at a digital business school:

Learning from Leading Entrepreneurs.

Digital Business is a fairly new discipline and the teachers associated with it are usually entrepreneurs and pioneers in their respective fields. When you are enrolled in digital business schools, you get the chance to learn from such experts. This provides you an opportunity to learn from the best, sharing the experiences they have gained from their own success and failures.

Other than the faculty members, you get a chance to meet a lot of famous entrepreneurs and innovators through seminars and workshops conducted at the campus.

Exposure to a Diverse Group of People.

A student enrolled at a digital business school will come across people from all over the world. Being in contact with diverse groups of people is a unique experience on its own.

Interacting with people from different cultures and having a diverse set of beliefs will ensure a better educational experience for anyone. This really helps when you are working on digital platforms open for audience around the world.

If you truly want to expose yourself to an array of cultures, you could enrol in digital business school abroad. One popular example is the business school at the University of Bologna in Italy. Bologna Business School is located in one of the most interesting parts of Europe, providing a truly enriching experience for students from all corners of the globe.

The Exciting Campus Life.

As mentioned earlier, digital business schools are there to nurture creativity and innovative thinking. The students you will meet share the same passion and together they create a fun and exciting learning experience. Most digital business schools have amazing campuses with plenty of facilities for their students. They have state of the art labs and plethora of extracurricular activities that provide hands-on experience in digital business management.

The Digital Experiences.

Digital business schools are the first ones to shun the old school strategies and tools. They utilise the latest technology to empower the whole learning process by making it a more interactive experience. Every student can participate equally and learn according his/her own pace. These schools have a more inclusive environment where opportunities are available for everyone.

Studying in a digital business school is definitely the first step towards a brighter career. The world is shifting towards digital businesses and in a few years, the typical business strategies would go obsolete. For anyone who wishes to retain their edge in the fast evolving world of business, digital is the way to go. Digital business schools prepare you for the future and being a student you will acquire the experience required to join the league of entrepreneurs, and innovators of the future.

A Few Economic Indicators To Watch The Rest Of 2017

stock trading

by Stephen Ng, author of “10 Financial Mistakes You Should Avoid: Strategies Designed to Help Keep Your Money Safe and Growing

According to the Washington Post, economic growth was slow in the United States during the first quarter of 2017, moving along at only 0.7 percent.

The number is a big drop off from the 2.1 percent growth experienced by the nation in the final quarter of 2016 and a long way from President Donald Trump’s promise of 3 percent economic growth during his time in office.

It hasn’t been all bad news on the economic front thus far in 2017. In the wake of what is turning out to be a volatile and unpredictable presidency, the stock market, which usually swings on every little tick of news – economic or not – has been quiet. In fact it continues the steady growth that it has shown for nearly a decade.

I don’t know how long this strong market performance will continue, but I do know it can’t last forever. When the market is up, you have to be careful. You need to make sure you have strategies in place for when the market drops.

The stock market is one thing I’ll have my eye on as we move into the second half of 2017, along with a couple of other financial related items:

Inflation.

Prices could be going up in the U.S. and the increase could be pretty high if we limit imports or place tariffs on them, as Trump has talked about doing. Ng says the cheapest watermelon costs about $25 in Japan. Compare that to the U.S. where we might pay $5. But if the country clamps down on imports, we might start seeing $25 watermelons ourselves.

Taxes and IRAs.

Trump’s proposal to lower corporate and personal income taxes could provide a historic opportunity for people to convert their traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs. When you retire, you pay taxes on the money you withdraw on a traditional IRA, but you don’t pay taxes on money you withdraw from a Roth. So if taxes are lowered, people should consider taking advantage and convert to Roths. You would pay taxes when you convert, but likely at a lower rate than you might have in the distant future when you retire.

The stock market.

The market has been on an upward swing for the most part of about nine years. What goes up comes down. When the market is up, people need to be careful, but most people become complacent. Do you have a strategy to protect your portfolio when the market has its inevitable drop?

“The most stable approach is generally to maintain a well-diversified portfolio using a strategy appropriate for your time frame, personal goals and risk tolerance,” Ng says.

How To Manage Your Business More Effectively

small business desk laptop

Managing a business is hard work. It can be frustrating and stressful when things are not going as you had planned. When figuring out how to run your business, make sure everything you do saves you time or money and helps the business grow.

Whether you run the business and work on your own, or manage other people, these tips can help you figure out how to let go of the stress and run your business more effectively.

Review to Figure Out What the Problem is.

The first step to fixing a problem is identifying what the problem is. Take a bit to sit back and reflect on how things are going, both what is going well and what is not going well. Make a list with two columns and write what is going well  in one and what is not going well in the other.  Then identify something in the latter column that seems solvable and  figure out how you can fix it.

Make a Plan to Fix It.

Once you have figured out what the problem is, make a plan to fix it. Identify what you are going to do differently and figure out how you can do it. Once you have a plan, write out the steps you need to take to get there. Check in periodically to see how things are going. If you identified more than one problem, fix one at a time or you will become overwhelmed.

Manage Your Time Effectively.

Get a calendar or a planner and write down everything you need to do. When you are scheduling phone calls or meetings with others, leave yourself plenty of time instead of cramming everything in. If you need to travel to your meetings, give yourself plenty of travel time. In fact, you should give yourself extra time in case there is traffic or other delays. You might also want to block off daily time for you to be in the office or at your computer to catch up.

Use Resources to Save Time or Money.

It might be a good idea to invest in equipment or people that can help you save time or money in the long run. If you have a lot of phone calls to make for following up and checking in with clients, you might want to hire someone to make them for you. You can also use computer programs to help you save time and money. Templafy is a software that can help you create on-brand documents more efficiently. While it is sometimes difficult to spend money, it might be the best thing for managing your business and getting people to recognize your professionalism.

Promote a Positive Environment

Creating a positive environment will not only help you feel happier and less stressed, but your customers will notice it too. It is natural that people want to be around happy people. Promoting a positive environment can be as simple as reminding yourself that today is going to be a good day, being supportive of employees, or smiling often.

Learn from Your Mistakes.

Sometimes it can be really difficult to admit your mistakes, but we all make them. In fact, it is what helps us grow as people. You can grow as a business manager by learning from your mistakes and doing your best to refrain from making them again. You can learn and do something differently the next time you are presented with the same situation. It can be a great growing experience, but will also help you to have a more positive attitude when something goes wrong.

Don’t get discouraged if things are not going well. It is important to reflect on what you can do to improve the situation. You cannot expect things to go well all the time, so do your best to learn from your mistakes.

8 Awesome Startup Ideas For Young Minds

startup plan

Entrepreneurship can be a tough challenge to tackle.  Along with the challenge can come many hardships and setbacks, but any successful entrepreneur knows that these tough times pale in comparison to the feeling of working for yourself and even growing a business.

Most successful entrepreneurs today started out by just growing their own services into small businesses when they were young. It’s never too early to start figuring out unique ways to start working for yourself.

If you don’t know where to start, here are some quick, simple examples that young people can use to help get the gears turning:

Yard Sales.

Many people acquire old junk over the years. As the saying goes, your treasure might be a treasure to someone else. Gather up your belongings that you don’t want or need anymore and spend a Saturday morning setting them up for display in your yard and sell them to neighbors and passersby.

Entertainer.

Are you a performer of some kind? Whether it be music, magic, or acting, you can always find places to show off your skills and even earn a little cash doing so. Many bars and small performance venues always need extra acts and are often willing to pay.

School Snacks.

It’s become quite the popular enterprising business for children in school to head down to the grocery store, buy up candy and other snacks in bulk, and resell them to their fellow peers individually for a profit. However, some schools do have policies against this sort of thing. Be sure to check with the administration staff before trying this one out.

Create Websites.

If you have a knack for coding and design, then it might make sense to help fellow entrepreneurs set up websites for their business ventures. There are a lot of different ways you can do this, but you will likely need a set of free stock photos to put the finishing touches on any website that you build.

Computer Repairs.

Growing up in the age of technology has given young people an advantage when it comes to learning how today’s devices work. You can use this knowledge to your benefi tand make some money next time an older family member or friend of has issues with their computer that you might be able to help them with.

Car Wash.

If you have access to a good space or lot, you can advertise your services or washing cars by hand. Many people love their cars and love to have them clean. Take advantage of this fact and make sure to set up shop in a visible area.

Thrifting.

Thrifting has become more and more popular as anyone of any age can do it. Head over to your local thrift store and shop around. If you find some really cool or popular styles of clothes, books, or music, you can easily buy them and resell them on the internet for profit.

YouTube.

Yes, you can actually make money on the internet as a teenager. There are many teens who have grown their YouTube channel content to a wide audience and put advertisements in their video that they get paid for running. A quick Google search will set you on the right path to setting this up.

,Whatever your idea, it is never too early to try and start offering your services and growing them into a business. Nothing beats a head start in working for you

CMMS Software Makes It Easier For Young Entrepreneurs To Oversee Maintenance

software computer screen

Dealing with big data can indeed be overwhelming especially when you’re a young entrepreneur who has just started off with your start-up firm. Regardless of whether you’re a novice or a seasoned businessman, you have to fully understand where the data is coming from; in what way is it collected and the feasible conclusions which can be drawn from such resources. These details need to be taken into account as business entrepreneurs will otherwise face erroneous conclusions and results which can create disaster in the near future.

This is where a CMMS or computerized maintenance management system software comes in. CMMS software will help you in managing big data which may include work orders, maintenance programs, processing software, supplier histories and other paperwork in your business enterprise. Let’s take a look into the benefits that you may reap when you use a CMMS.

#1: Manages work orders in an efficient manner.

When you utilize software for facilities and maintenance management, it enhances workflow and efficiency by offering you a schedule through which you can assign work orders and close them easily and quickly. It showers you with the ability to configure screens dedicated to work orders with desired fields, tracks all work orders automatically and captures history which is associated with every single piece of equipment.

#2: Manage inventory of spare parts.

Whenever a specific maintenance department remains disorganized, the maintenance managers may find it extremely difficult to locate the parts which they need. During these situations, when there is a CMMS system, it allows maintenance managers to keep track of assets that require maintenance and also set reordering of parts automatically so that they have all the spare parts that are needed for a perfect repair. A CMMS tells you where the parts have to be stored so that you don’t waste your precious time searching storerooms.

#3: Do away with all paperwork.

When you use software for facilities and maintenance management, this eradicates the need for clipboards and paperwork as the software can be easily set up in such a manner that it can capture automatic information. The people who are into maintenance can view every single detail related to various work orders on their mobile devices and computers. Henceforth, maintenance technicians don’t require searching through folders and cabinets to look for the information that they need.

#4: Improves productivity.

Did you know that maintenance software can be instantly linked to mobile devices? Since it can be linked to hand-held devices, the technicians can get real-time access to information, initiate work orders, check inventory without having to remain inside the office. You can save your journey time and such software also offers details to maintenance technicians regarding parts, procedures and tools which are needed to perform a task. Hence this also decreases delay and lets you complete the work without interruption.

Therefore, if you’re a young startup firm who is worried about physical maintenance of management software, you can certainly use CMMS software to reap the above mentioned benefits.

Debunking The Biggest Myths Of Hiring: Four Faulty Beliefs That Could Be Hindering Your Company’s Selection Process

by Scott Wintrip, author of “High Velocity Hiring: How to Hire Top Talent in an Instant

interview talk

There’s a shortage of skilled workers across all industries in the country. You’ve likely experienced this skills shortage impact within your own organization, usually in the form of empty desks and jobs remaining unfulfilled for weeks or months at a time. And if you’re a business owner you’ve no doubt undergone extensive selection processes time and again to find the perfect candidates.

You may assume that the skills shortage is to blame for the high number of open jobs, but the real problem is that businesses believe a dangerous set of myths around hiring, and that these myths are hurting organizations everywhere.

In both good times and bad, there have never been enough qualified job candidates to go around. But this talent shortage hasn’t stopped some companies from filling their jobs quickly and keeping them filled. These businesses aren’t just lucky. Rather, they have rejected the old ideas of hiring that continue to slow down many organizations today.

The companies that still struggle to fill their jobs need to thoroughly examine their beliefs about hiring. They must make sure they’re not buying into hiring principles that don’t really benefit them. Here are four of the biggest hiring myths and my advice for countering them in your organization:

Myth #1: The skills shortage is the cause of hiring delays.

Hiring delays indicate a problem with your selection process, not a talent flow issue. Since there are never enough qualified candidates to go around, savvy leaders have realized they can’t afford to engage in the old way of hiring that involves keeping a job open until the right person (finally) shows up. Instead, these leaders have made fast, accurate hiring a strategic imperative. They require managers to engage in the new way of hiring: actively cultivating top talent and then waiting for the right job to become available. They realize that a job becoming available is a when situation — not an if situation. These forward-thinking leaders always plan for the when and so should you.

Myth #2: Hiring is exclusively an HR function.

While HR plays a vital role in hiring, the organizations that fill their jobs quickly understand that hiring is a team sport. Instead of treating hiring as an exclusively HR function, the most successful companies view employee selection as a leadership function supported by HR (and the talent acquisition team, if there is one). Everyone has a role, and under this framing, hiring managers communicate thoroughly and make hiring decisions swiftly while HR and the talent acquisition team supply talent and facilitate the process. And everyone, from the top down, generates talent through networking and requesting referrals.

Myth #3: You must hire slowly and fire quickly.

Unfortunately, this well-known business cliché is almost always bad advice. People who are slow to hire operate out of fear of making a bad choice. They have experienced the consequences of poor hiring choices, and in attempts to avoid this mistake again, they slow down the hiring process and come to believe that speed and accuracy are mutually exclusive.

This plodding approach to hiring leads to overanalysis and a protracted timeline. As a result, talented candidates move on and open jobs remain open. To counter this myth, progressive leaders have adopted a new mantra: Be fast to hire and quick to inspire. They mandate a hiring process that promotes rapid decision making and the nurturing of employee relationships.

Myth #4: This is how it’s always been done, so it must be right.

Many organizations keep doing things the same way, even if that way is ineffective. For example, some companies have unwritten rules, such as reviewing a slate of eight to ten candidates before making a hire, even when a highly qualified candidate is identified among the first few candidates.

It’s easier to maintain the status quo, especially when you’re afraid that changing things won’t work. But doing ‘business as usual’ keeps companies stuck in the slow lane of hiring, losing them valuable time and top talent to faster competitors. Dispelling this myth requires a different mindset. Instead of sticking with the status quo because that’s how things have always been done, the leaders who are successful keep what works and replace the rest. Be willing to change and evolve, because you may get impressive results by trying something new.

The skilled worker shortage will only become more noticeable in the future. As globalization increases, borders will matter less, creating a talent competition unlike anything we’ve ever seen. It’s crucial to immediately disengage from those myths around hiring that prevent you from efficiently finding good employees. Once you counter the myths that are slowing your selection process, you’ll see that good talent really isn’t hard to find after all.

Here’s Why Office Workers Say They Would Like To Wear A Uniform to Work

working professional man suit tie

by Rob Wilson, CEO of Employco USA

A recent study found that one-third of workers say that they feel judged based on the clothing they wear to the office. In fact, four out of ten people say that they would rather a uniform to work rather than have to deal with the stress of deciding what is “office-appropriate” or risk earning the boss’s ire for their clothing.

As fashion changes and our country becomes more progressive, so too does standards of office attire. This causes major confusion for employees. For example, wearing jeans to work used to be a major no-no, but now many fashion retailers offer dark fitted denim that is being marketed as office clothing for women. So how can employees know the rules of dressing for the office?

Here are my top tips for employers and employees when it comes to the dress code:

1. Make sure your company dress code is fairly enforced.

One of the primary complaints that employees have is that one employee ‘gets away’ with certain clothing but other employees get written up for similar infractions. Unless an employee has a disability which requires a dress code modification, then be stringent about your dress code.  It might be easier to turn a blind eye to an employee’s open-toed shoes, but the next month when an employee wears an inappropriate logo on a T-shirt, you will have a harder time explaining why that is not allowed.

2. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

If you allow your female staff to wear dark nail polish and edgy hair styles like pastel dye, then realize that is setting a precedent for the entire office. This means that all of your employees, including transwomen or men or those who identify as non-binary, will expect to have equal rights when it comes to expressing their fashion tastes. If you want to limit such expressions of individuality, then make a policy that only light nail polish is allowed and that no extreme hair colors or styles are permitted.

3. Send out a reminder at the start of each season.

As the weather is scorching in most of the country right now, more people are going to start reaching for open-toed shoes and sundresses. Now is the best time to send out a mass email to your staff with clear and concise instructions about hot weather dress.

4. Understand that many people view office temperature as sexist.

There has been a large movement lately of women stating that the chilly temperatures in offices are sexist. Sounds a little odd, but the idea is that men in suit jackets desire a cooler temperature, whereas women who are dressed in traditional feminine clothing such as skirts and silk tops will feel cold in such temps. Make sure that your office temperature does not prioritize one person’s comfort over another, and perhaps allow your employees to remove their suit jackets in the office.

5. Be open to education.

Not sure if your office policies are up to snuff? Hire a sensitivity expert who can help teach you and your employees important lessons about cross-cultural differences. Whether it is a trans employee or an employee who wears a hijab, it is important that everyone’s rights are respected in the office, as it relates to dress codes and beyond.
