The Five Myths Of Leadership

by Ken Pasch, author of “On Course: Become a Great Leader & Soar!

What does it mean to be a leader? Is it a natural ability to rally those around you? A special term reserved for the high ranks of an organization or political office? Or is it simply being successful in what you do?

These are widely held beliefs about leadership, but they are false beliefs and ideas. In other words: they’re myths.

Many myths about leadership cause significant problems and can throw you off course in your leadership journey.

Let’s look at five top leadership myths to see how many you recognize:

Myth #1: “Leaders must be born with the necessary attributes.”

How often have you heard the phrase, “He was born to lead?” or “She’s a natural leader?” Is the secret to leadership locked in our genes?

Sure, some people seem to have natural gifts that help them lead well. But from my 30 years working in leadership development, I can tell you the majority ofleaders are made, not born.

History backs this notion as well. Just take a look at familial monarchies over time. How do they turn out? The same bloodline has produced both good monarchs and lousy ones. You may even see this in your own bloodline: if your favorite uncle or aunt is a great leader, does this mean people view you as a naturally gifted leader, too? Of course not.

Myth #2: “I’m a leader because I’m in a leadership position.”

Though this statement seems technically true – doesn’t your business card prove it? – assuming you’re in your current role as a result of your leadership skills is one of the biggest myths out there.

The people who put you in a position of authority expect you to achieve results. But don’t be fooled into believing they measured your ability to lead and, as a result, placed you in the role. Relative proficiency is a prime reason people are elevated to leadership roles. But proficiency in a technical field does not necessarily qualify you to lead well. Your success as a leader depends on your ability to achieve good results with your crew members, not good results at their expense.

Myth #3: “I can’t be a leader because I’m not in a leadership position.”

I guarantee you are a leader in some, if not several, aspects of your life. You’ll find the best organizations are actually full of leaders, not just people “at the top.” Taking ownership of something within your area of responsibility requires you to lead. Honing your skills at this level provides good experience for leadership positions in the future.

Myth #4: “I’m as successful as I’m going to get. I’m far too busy to find another way.”

We all have the same number of hours in a day. Over time, you can learn to use your hours differently to be more effective, and not just busy.

Don’t believe me? Consider this stunning fact: the average American watches five hours of television each day. That’s more than 20 percent of our waking hours! Imagine what we could accomplish if we used just one or two hours of leisure time every day on productive activities rather than an escape. In fact, why imagine it when you can start today?

Myth #5: “I can be, do, and have everything I want. Leadership will follow my success.”

Perhaps you’ve never said this, but do your actions imply you believe it? Deep down, you know that doing and having everything isn’t realistic, or even possible. Could this be keeping you from becoming the leader you want to be?

Instead, concentrate on priorities you can turn into results. To borrow from my U.S. Air Force days, you want to become an ACE, focusing on abundance (where you’re efforts benefit “we” and not just “me”), concentrating on priorities, and earnestly pursuing your purpose with passion.

Ken Pasch brings over 30 years’ experience in revolutionizing leader development within a broad range of organizations, including the U.S. Military, Johnson & Johnson, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. He is founder of KiVisions, Inc., which advises good people on how to become great leaders, and serves as faculty in executive education at the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University. His new book is “On Course: Become a Great Leader & Soar!“.

Global Payroll Companies Save Corporations Money On Operations

The world has become globalized in the recent times. There are so many opportunities for businesses to explore and at the end of the day make some money. If you are planning to take your company to the global market, you must understand the importance of payroll. Experts say that this is one of the factors to consider when expanding a business.

When a company has started its operations in multiple countries of the world, there are several challenges it has to face. All regions of the world have different legislative requirements. Complying with these important legal matters is essential for a company that wants to maintain revenue and reputation. Global payroll companies will assist you in these ways:

Global Payroll Companies Bring in Cost Control.

Venturing into the global market can be a costly affair for any business. Companies that have started globalization are looking for different ways of saving their money whenever there is an opportunity. With the use of global payroll companies it is easy to pay for the appropriate level in affordable locations. There are several savings that will be derived from automation and consolidation, and this will help a company to move forward and perform well in the international market.

Improved Accuracy.

Making a simple payroll mistake can be extremely detrimental for any company, especially those in the international market. For the companies that are dealing with globalization, there are various tax regulations and payroll systems that must be followed at all times. Even when you have a payroll department that is well trained and experienced in handling complex tax regulations from all over the world, your company will make mistakes when you do not use the services of global payroll companies.

When a mistake has been made in the payroll, the employees in a company will be angered, and the government in question might suspend your operations, leading to huge losses. Getting a reputable global payroll company is the only way to ensure that your employees are happy and that there are no additional expenses.

Increased Reliability.

When you have decided to operate in the international scale, it means that you have increased your employees in multiple countries and continents. It is paramount to have professional staffs who are highly experienced. However, these people might go on holiday or fall sick, and this can cause significant changes in the payroll department. A small change in the company routine can result to huge losses.

Because a global company has offices in different parts of the world, it is crucial to make sure that the output remains unaffected, regardless of the things taking place. This routine can only be maintained when businesses use global payroll company services. These services will ensure that there are no changes when people have gone for holiday. Apart from saving you a lot of money, this service will save you time and at the end of the day provide the peace of mind you have been looking for.

[ADV] Small Companies Save Money With EHS Software

Small-scaled companies may operate with a lower capital and a smaller area but it doesn’t mean that the responsibility of the company is lesser than that of a large corporation. Regardless of size, every business has to look out for their environment, health and safety standards and processes.

Small companies need to be mindful, since every neglected facet could be costly to them in the long run.

How Small-Scaled Companies Save Money with EHS Software.

Every company or business has to be conscious in its dealings with its surroundings, employees and partners. The government itself has created rules, regulations and guidelines to make sure that the environment and immediate surroundings, health and safety of the personnel in the company are protected and upheld. Most corporations deploy EHS software that allows them to conveniently monitor and manage their Environment, Health and Safety.

Regardless of the country of origin or the size of your business, you can greatly benefit from having an application help in your short term and long term business operations. Whether those applications help you in standards compliance, incident reports, risk management or all of the above and more; software can help in making sure that your processes are at their peak.

EHS Software Helps Small Companies Save Money.

Every small company aims to save money so that they can extend the use of their capital and maximize return of investment. Saving money could mean a number of different things from preventing additional expenses due to damage or unforeseen events, or being compliant so the company can avoid hundreds of dollars in fines.

Here are some of the ways that software for EHS can help small companies save money:

  • The company doesn’t need to hire an expert to take care of EHS issues. Software can substitute an expert and it can easily be installed to your own systems. Any employee can use the application and you can even have it on your own personal gadgets to check while you’re on the go.
  • You get one EHS software to deal with three issues (environment, health and safety) all at once. Some applications only focus on one area like environment only, health only or safety only; getting three applications would be too complicated and expensive for a small company.
  • The EHS software will help with compliance and risk-prevention. If your company misses something important, it could not only become a compliance issue but also a possible bigger problem in the long run. An EHS application that spots out these possible issues before they happen could not only save money on avoiding fines but also help in clearing out a lot of possible incidents that could turn into further damage in the long run.

Know What You Need.

A small business needs to make sure that every spending is worth the possible returns in the future. If your company is not in the kind of business that deals with environmental regulations and other concerns, then maybe you don’t need software for EHS. However, if your company deals with all of the 3 facets at all times then maybe you need to get a reliable EHS application as a long term investment.

How To Enter The DasCoin Ecosystem

The interdisciplinary nature between cryptocurrency, finance and technology is evident across the board. In traditional financial services, everything operates with a centralized approach.

There are institutions such as commercial banks, retail banks and central banks that process financial transactions for stakeholders.

Bitcoin Lays the Platform for DasCoin.

The value that is now being brought to bear through technological advancement allows for wealth distribution and the sharing of these financial resources. Since everyone on the eponymous blockchain is effectively contributing to its value, everyone should share in the benefits of the new age technology. This is the thinking behind cryptocurrencies in general and DasCoin in particular.

Prior to the rise of cryptocurrency, a system of complimentary currencies was being toyed with. Then came Bitcoin. This cryptocurrency has nearly limitless possibilities in terms of the blockchain approach it brings to transactions processing. It is decentralized, unregulated, allows complete anonymity, and is not backed by bullion reserves, the USD, oil or any other commodity known to man.

Its value or lack thereof is fully dependent on its adoption by mainstream society. As the pioneer in the cryptocurrency arena (thanks to Satoshi Nakamoto – an individual or group of individuals), a new age has dawned. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies enjoyed dramatic gains in popularity in the latter half of 2017, and it is against this backdrop that new and improved cryptocurrency like DasCoin have entered the arena.

DasCoin – Secure and Compliant.

The major challenges for any cryptocurrency on the market are adoption, scalability, security, compliance, et al. DasCoin’s brains trust pondered long and hard how best to effectively tackle all these issues, and several others. Ensuring the stability of a cryptocurrency system is paramount. DasCoin was created with an eye to the future. The code that it is built upon allows for iterations to take place as needed.

The challenge in such a system is to maintain simplicity and security. Thanks to a permissioned blockchain through a community of empowerment known as NetLeaders, this cryptocurrency has found a way to survive and evolve in a dynamic system. Every node in the authenticated community is subject to KYC (know your customer) compliance.

The KYC policy is central to the functionality and performance of the DasCoin Ecosystem. The community of empowerment comprises a plethora of blockchain-based applications and services. The more connections there are on this network, the more powerful the network becomes. However much like a chain being as strong as its weakest link – every user/member on the network must be validated and authenticated. The DasCoin Ecosystem is fully protected against money laundering, thanks to AML compliance and alignment with CFT standards. DasCoin members utilize a WebWallet with a USB-style hardware device known as a Validator to protect funds within the system.

DasCoin is Different and Here’s Why.

Security, compliance, and privacy are but a handful of the reasons why DasCoin differs from other options like Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Ethereum Cash, Litecoin and others. Here are 5 clear differences between the way DasCoin functions and the rest of the cryptocurrency world:

1. Scalability – this new cryptocurrency has the capacity to process 100,000+ transactions every second. No amount of transactions processing will slow down the scalability of this digital currency.

2. Speed – in just 6 seconds it is possible to confirm blockchain transactions. This is true irrespective of the size of the network.

3. Ecosystem it’s not just a cryptocurrency operating in cyberspace on a blockchain network; it’s a much broader ecosystem known as the DasEcosystem. There is complete integration across the entire blockchain economy and every authenticated member/user is an integral component of the system.

4. Regulatory compliance this is where DasCoin differs from Bitcoin and others. By requiring users to provide full identity verification, compliance is assured. This is necessary since the entire cryptocurrency field will ultimately be subject to regulatory constraints. DasCoin is already there.

5. Adaptability every time there are regulatory changes, or iterations in the marketplace, the blockchain system of governance will adapt to these changes.

[ADV] Reasons Why Customers Need Cashback UK Sites

Every business has a goal to be successful in their chosen endeavor. Some want to sell to other companies or retail consumers, some want to offer the best services to other businesses, and all of these businesses just want to continue operation for the years to come.

Because of the intense competition surrounding businesses and their industries, they resort to deploying marketing strategies and tactics to stay relevant and desirable to their existing market.

Here are the Reasons Why Customers Need Cashback UK Sites.

One of the popular marketing tactics done by both offline and online businesses is by the use of affiliate marketing strategy, which also branches out to referral marketing and cash back shopping. The key is paying a third-party website to act as a middleman to you and your customer. If a customer completes a transaction in your ecommerce website, the cash back site that brought that customer to you gets a percentage of the purchase as incentive; they give a percentage of that back to the customers.

Customers need cash back websites because these small rebates could become bigger when accumulated over time. Every household spends money on food, electricity and other necessities anyway so getting a small percentage back is already a big help in extending the monthly household budget. Some cash back sites also give incentive for other services like recommending friends to shop through their site or answering surveys in behalf of their affiliated companies.

Cashback UK Sites Know Their Customers Better.

Businesses have evolved in the digital plane with technological upgrades making transactions more fast and efficient. There are so many websites that offer the best deals and cash back guarantees but sometimes, they don’t cater to what a specific place needs. People in the United Kingdom would need a cashback UK site one that would cater to the needs that are based on their location and other demographic information.

If a cash back website caters to those that are living in the UK, they will operate based on the information gathered about consumers that are in UK. Cashback UK sites will know about the shopping trends and the fast-moving items that are needed at different times of the year. Not only that, they will offer competitive rebate rates because they will be competing with other financial institutions that offer the same services like banks.

It’s Better to Shop from Sites that Cater to Your Location.

Ecommerce sites have shops dedicated to shoppers from a specific location like US, UK, Australia or Asia. These additions to the shopping experience were not put into play just to make these shoppers feel special that their country has their own selections. The retailers have also put into account the difference in culture, preferences, climates and other various factors that the target markets take into consideration.

With this principle in mind, it’s easy to conclude that cashback UK sites can cater to the consumers in United Kingdom better than any other cash back websites. They can easily transact and verify with the UK payment methods, which could lead to more efficient transactions and faster cash back. Aside from that, they are informed about the current events and seasons of the country so they know which products or services should be highlighted for a certain week or month.

6 Reasons You Need PR For Your Startup

by Jennifer Fortney, President of Cascade Communications

For most of my 20+ year-career, I have worked with small businesses, startups, entrepreneurs and inventors, and I have seen the power public relations can have on these businesses.

For example,

  • I watched as a client, working out of their basement, began earning $1MM in revenue and moved to a corporate office and warehouse within a few months of their first big media hit. And, growth snowballed as additional media stories came in.
  • I’ve seen a small retail store triple its business in under 18 months, reaching annual sales goals by Q2 and doubling up on staff with one media introduction.
  • I’ve watched a pet startup attract buyers from major pet stores as a result of 70 media stories I achieved for them in one year.
  • I’ve seen an entrepreneur take a $.40 hair tool and earn more than $1MM in a few months

There is no doubt that public relations (generating positive media stories) can be impactful to your startup, and here’s why:

1. Public relations is the one and only marketing tool that can build credibility for your startup.

Journalists spend years, even decades, on their beat, making them experts on the topics they write about. So, when we see someone we perceive as a trusted expert mention a company, product or service we’re 10 times more likely to buy it or at least click it to learn more.

Maybe a customer hasn’t seen the story and finds you through search. Once on your website, seeing media logos representing the media that has reported on your company, has a subconscious effect that triggers a customer to dive deeper, learn more and can even tip a questionable buyer over the edge.

2. Drive sales.

The media has a credibility that you can’t buy or create using any other marketing strategy. A journalist’s endorsement of a company is a powerful testament that people see, read, and listen to. It drives traffic, and, if your website is successful in making an emotional connection with customers, it assists in driving sales.

The examples above are proof of PR’s capability to communicate, encourage engagement and connection with a company. The more people see you, the more opportunity you have to generate sales.

PR’s role is to drive traffic to your storefront (digital or brick and mortar). It’s up to your website to finalize the sale, so it’s important that all of your marketing messaging and telling of your company story is consistent.

3. Builds automatic positive perception.

Perception is the only thing that matters to your business and it matters to everyone – customers, vendors, investors, employees, media, everyone.

Perception is the way a person feels about your business. And it’s everything.

Media will decide if they will interview you based on the strength of your story and the look and feel of your website.

Investors love to see press releases and love to see actual stories even more. It gives them hope that their investment was a good bet, or maybe you’re worth betting on.

Vendors love to see stories because it means you will bring them more business. They perceive that you will become a longtime partner, and pay your bills on time, which means they will work hard for you, even turn around projects faster when demand increases.

Employees’ perception of your company is crucial. After all, they are the ones with the most interaction with customers. If they perceive that the company is growing, that they will keep a job, then they will work harder and better to ensure that customers are happy and contribute to growth. Media attention excites employees, reinforces their job security and future with your company.

Typically, a customer’s first touch with your business is often through media stories. For consumers, perception, the way the feel about your company, is a driving force in their choices to learn more, engage and buy. It is a key part of the customer experience and they are making judgements and setting opinions about your business throughout the Purchase Process – from learning to education and Purchase to Post-purchase.

If they perceive a media story as favorable, your product or service as something they need, they will go to your website to learn more.

  • Is your website put together well? Does it convey what you are and do?
  • Does your product or service meet their needs?
  • What do they perceive as the value of your product or service?
  • Does the value meet their idea of price?
  • What is their perception of your company customer experience?
  • Does the product or service meet their expectations after purchase?

Their perception is the most important at the end of the day because it equates to revenue.

4. Makes advertising more effective.

You’ve achieved the media story, so how do you use it to further build credibility, reputation and a positive perception? Amplify it!

Thanks to social media outlets like Facebook, it is easy to utilize a link to a news story on your startup to create an ad, allowing you to amplify to all kinds of new customers, even begin the branding process with those who are seeing your message for the second or third time.

Just the perception alone that a perceived trusted news source has written a story on the company can be enough to encourage consumers to “buy now”.

Also, scratch media’s backs. Be sure to post on social media a big thanks @ reporter @TV @magazine for the story. After all, they’re doing a lot for your business, you can return the favor.

5. Increases search rankings.

Finally, companies love PR for its ability to increase search results, especially for people who don’t know they’re looking for you until they find you. If you are able to achieve stories in larger, branded publications like a USA Today, because these sites are considered High Authority Links, they will pop up first when searching for widgets with your company’s story.

Moreover, these media will almost always include a link to your website in the story, creating a “backlink”, which has also been shown to help increase your search visibility, as well as traffic! The trick is that these backlinks should be authentic, meaning don’t hire someone to go out and spam the same article content all over the web. Google actually hates that.

Finally, press releases. In all honesty, I rarely use them anymore to communicate with media – I write a custom story pitch – however, they are valuable, again, to search. These press release distribution sites get a lot of traffic, mostly by people posting content, and they offer tools to promote content directly to media, which also sends traffic back to their site – the more traffic, clicks, the higher ranking. So, it’s easy to see how someone might find your press release through searching for widgets and then follow the link back to your website.

Any content you can create – blog, social posts – about your positive PR can also be searchable, so share it!

6. It’s affordable.

Sure, social advertising doesn’t seem like it’s that expensive, but those little amounts add up, because for advertising to work to build branding, you have to do it a lot; constantly. You can’t do it once and expect tremendous traffic. It’s ongoing, forever and over many platforms.

Meanwhile, PR, as mentioned, brings the power of credibility to the table. Credibility that makes your advertising more productive.

To keep it affordable, work with a small, boutique agency that understands how to prioritize for results using a small budget. Or, if you have the time and desire, you can learn to do-it-yourself, which makes it all but free, earned media!

Jennifer Fortney is President of Cascade Communications, a boutique, virtual PR and marketing communications company in Chicago, and author of “Pitched: A Simple DIY Guide to Public Relations for Small Businesses”. In her 20+ year career, she has worked with top Fortune 500 companies and a wide variety of small businesses and startups across the country, generating millions of media impressions.

As soon as someone turns 16, one of the first things they ought to do is get a driving license. Driving a car to anywhere is very convenient and opens up a lot of options. But one of the things you must do before getting a driving license is passing the DMV permit test. You can learn more about how to pass DMV permit test at driver-start.com. If you’re taking the DMV permit test for the first time, you should know that you will be expected to know almost everything from the DMV manual. It covers a lot of important topics that include traffic laws, road signs, road rules and other useful things related to driving safely and responsibly.

Let’s take a look at a few things you can do to ensure that you pass your DMV test.

Driver’s manual.

First thing’s first. You need some material to study and the driver’s manual is the only book you should be concentrating on. However, this is not a test where you could memorize it word by word and pass the test and forget about it later. I suggest go through the things that are relevant to you and understand all the rules and regulations you need to follow. Knowing the road signs is also very crucial. You can download it online and start learning immediately.

Practice.

Once you familiarize yourself with everything you need to know for the state that you’re living in, go online and start taking practice tests. You can take this test online and practice so that you get an idea of how the test is going to be. Focus on your area only as different states have different driving laws.

Ask for help.

It is absolutely okay and normal to take extra help from your friends and other sources. You can visit sites like driver-start.com to get a better idea on how to pass DMV permit test. There are a lot of people who fail their DMV written tests on their first try. So, it’s a good option to try and get as much help as possible and prepare yourself.

No Shortcuts.

One thing you should keep in mind is there are no shortcuts when it comes to passing the DMV permit test. It’s pointless and a major waste of time trying to find one. The only way you can pass is by studying as much as possible and then genuinely take the test. It’s usually advised to start preparing well in advance and not keep the studying for the last minute as you may forget everything you have learned if you decide to go with the latter option.

Don’t panic.

At the end of the day, it’s just like any other test. Keep in mind that you can write the test again if you fail on the first try. And panicking only makes things worse as you won’t be able to focus properly. However, this doesn’t mean that you take the test for granted. It’s only beneficial for you if you pass the test as soon as possible.

These were some of the tips to help you write the DMV permit test successfully. You can always visit driver-start.com for information on how to pass DMV permit test.

[ADV] How To Develop An Anonymous Social Networking App

Social media is a popular webspace where people can be able to share their personal ideas, comments, lamentations, messages, and other contents. On the other hand, anonymous social media apps like Whisper, YikYak, Secret and Facebook rooms are also gaining popularity right now. These applications meet the demand for identity privacy as it provides safe communication for the users without disclosing their real identities.

Given below are the things that a developer might need to know in order to develop an anonymous social networking application.

Considerations In Developing The Apps.

Users

In anonymous social networks, key pieces of information about your true identity are nonexistent. In some cases, personal profile is none at all. As a matter of fact, anonymous networks are divided into two categories the login and non-login apps:

Developers of the anonymous social networking apps are often asking users for their phone numbers as it is used to show the posts created by the user’s friends.

  • Non-login

Whisper, for example, tracks their users by generating unique token or user id associated with their device. This indicates that if a user uses the anonymous app from another device, another token will be generated for him/her creating a new identity in the database.

Accounts

There are many approaches to switch a user from public account to anonymous account and vice versa in the anonymous app. But one of the best approaches is to assign a set of characters (similar to RPG games) to every user account. Each character is totally independent from each other. Thus, there is no way to access every other character’s data unless you know the username and password of the account owning the characters. This approach is also scalable as you can add many characters in a single account.

Chats

The approach for establishing anonymous chats is through the use of message encryption. As a matter of fact, numerous anonymous social networking apps prefer to use this feature. One way to encrypt private messages is through Anonyfish a third-party service that uses AES and BLOWFISH ciphers and it deletes the message after 45 days.

Contents and Interactions.

Anonymous social networking apps offer various feeds for their users. Examples of those are listed below:

  1. Nearby feed

Feeds are based on the location data of the user wherein users can only vote and comment on the posts within their community.

  1. Popular/ Explore Feed

Feeds are featured based on the largest number of likes, shares, replies or even upvotes within the whole network.

  1. Latest feed

This type of feed lists the posts that just got recently shared and this can possibly help you to fill the popular feed much earlier.

  1. Company feed

This requires users to register with the use of their company name.

  1. School feed

This feed requires developers to add search to allow the users choose the school where they can see feeds.

Fight Verbal Abuse.

There are ways to prevent verbal abuse in anonymous social networks see the list below:

  1. Flag post/ in-app warning
  • Allow users to flag inappropriate posts and repetitive abusive posts can be subjected to an in-app warning.
  1. Remove Posts
  • Hire individuals to detect and remove abusive posts and develop an algorithm to do the same task.
  1. Limit Users
  • All contents are available to the public but only registered users can post.
  1. Geo-fencing
  • Create a geographic boundary using GPS or RFID technology to prevent unwanted access.

Conclusion.

Developing an anonymous social networking app is a challenging yet exciting endeavor. Thus, knowing how to address the privacy needs of the users will bring your app to an enormous success. However, when developing anonymous social networking app, always bear in mind the welfare and safety of the users.

Change Or Be Dragged: How To (Painlessly) Reinvent Yourself When Life Demands It

by Paul G. Krasnow, author of “The Success Code: A Guide For Achieving Your Personal Best In Business And Life

In these fast-paced times, it seems like change is the only constant we have. Some people accept change gracefully, while others hold on kicking and screaming. But today it’s more important than ever to embrace change and be able to reinvent yourself. Why? Because innovation is changing markets daily, because our global economy has leveled the playing field and introduced more competition than ever before, and because life occasionally compels us to move in a new direction — like it or not.

Whether you’re switching jobs in a competitive market, starting a new career, or experiencing a transition in your personal life, upheaval can be really frightening. But it’s also a priceless opportunity to reinvent yourself.

When you face a setback in your life, you have two choices – remain stuck or move forward; it’s that simple. Life is too short to spend it stuck and miserable. Take action now to change your life or get ready to watch life pass you by.

Reinventing yourself demands change. No matter how dire your circumstances, you can make changes today that will prepare you for a better tomorrow. You may have to find a new way to make a living, or start over in a new city, or take a big risk that terrifies you. Still, you have to be willing to change. It may not always be easy, but it sure beats staying stuck for the rest of your life.

Keep reading for tips on how to embrace change and reinvent yourself today.

Realize it’s never too late.

During the course of your lifetime, you will be called upon to reinvent yourself, time and time again. Don’t let yourself stay stuck in what you know. Make the most of the resilience you now have under your belt with overcoming previous challenges and strive for new horizons. As you envision this new version of yourself, what are some steps you can take today to put that new self into action?

Take an honest look at your life.

Muster the courage to look at your life and figure out where you’ve gone wrong, and the changes you need to make to get back on track. Own up to the mistakes you have made and take responsibility for the part you played in getting yourself stuck. This kind of brutal honesty is not for the faint of heart. It requires courage to take full responsibility for your life and most importantly for the failures in your wake. But if you can sit down and face your own mistakes, you will free yourself up to learn from the painful consequences you are facing today.

Move forward; just do it.

Change is not rocket science. We all have a tendency to make life so complicated when it doesn’t have to be. Simply make a decision to move forward. Don’t try; just do it. People say they’re going to try to change. Try? There is no such thing. There’s doing it or not doing it. ‘Try’ is a word that you should eliminate from your vocabulary right now.

Dream big.

The only real challenge in creating the life you’ve always wanted is your inability or unwillingness to free up your imagination to envision your dream in all of its glory. In other words, you are only as successful as your perceived limitations. How often do you limit yourself when envisioning the success you are capable of achieving? Don’t settle for the limited vista of your present-day life. Instead, allow yourself to be willing to travel well beyond the bounds of the landscapes you may not be able to imagine today.

Stay focused.

Once you decide to make a change in your life, it’s time to get serious and focus on your goals. Think of life as a journey in a train that travels on a track. Each track leads to a specific destination. Make a point of staying on the track of your choice, without getting distracted and switching tracks. If you stay focused, you will certainly reach your desired destination.

Pace yourself.

Making a major life change requires a steady pace. You work at it each day and keep at it (and then keep at it some more). Remember that extraordinary creations are not built in a day through occasional bursts of effort, but rather are crafted over long periods of time with daily, steady tasks. It’s a marathon; stop exhausting yourself by sprinting from place to place. Instead, stay on course with your goals and remain consistent.

Know that failure is not an option.

When you realize that failure is not an option, it becomes clear that there is no stopping at the first obstacle you encounter along the way. There is an opening, even in the most stubborn of barricades. Where is the opening in your current wall of obstacles? Is there a secret passage you had overlooked but is now emerging in front of you? Take that hidden path and forge ahead. Just keep your eye on where you want to go and you might find that a setback along the way was actually a shortcut to your desired destination!

We all know that change is not the most comfortable part of our lives. But know that the process of transformation is a gratifying experience, providing you find the courage to do it. You can adapt. You can take a new path in your life. And you will undoubtedly be better for it in the long run.

5 Proven Strategies For Staying Motivated When You Work At Home

The nature of the workforce is changing. More and more people are working from home these days. Although there’s definitely something alluring about the ability to work without a boss breathing down your neck (not to mention working in your pyjamas!) there are some challenges to working from home, especially in terms of productivity.

Here, we’ll discuss some strategies you can use to increase your productivity when you are working from home.

Look the part.

I know, I know – I just said there’s something so attractive about being able to work in your pyjamas. And that’s great if you can be productive that way. The reality is, though, some people can’t. For some people, getting up and getting dressed is a very effective way to set the stage for a productive work day. What you wear isn’t as important as how it makes you feel. Wear whatever makes you feel ready to take on the day.

Have a dedicated space.

One of the biggest obstacles to productivity for work-at-homers is the ability to separate their work life from their home life. Having a dedicated work space not only creates a physical barrier between your work life and your home life, it helps to create a psychological barrier, too. When you can make that separation, it’s easier to stay on task and avoid distractions.

Move around!

Sitting is the new smoking. We’ve all heard that, right? A sedentary lifestyle is not only bad for your health, it’s also a hindrance to your productivity. If you make time to get up and move around, go for a short walk, stretch, etc. periodically throughout your work day, you’ll come back to your desk refreshed and ready to get refocused.

Stick to a schedule.

One of the biggest benefits of working from home is that you can set your own schedule. But it’s important that you do set a schedule. Having too much flexibility in your work day can lead to procrastination and lack of productivity. Set a schedule that allows you some fluidity in your work day, but that keeps you moving toward your goals.

Keep track of your time.

It’s very easy to get distracted when you don’t have someone to report to. We’ve all fallen down the black hole that is social media, for example.

Small business expert Shaun McGowan says, “when you work from home, it’s easy to underestimate exactly how much time these distractions take away from our work day. There are lots of online tools you can use to keep track of how much time you spend on social media as compared to how long you spend on your word processing tasks. This can be your own built-in way of staying accountable and on task. Checkout Chrome App StayFocusd, it increases your productivity by limiting the amount of time that you can spend on time-wasting websites”.

Productivity is not always optimal when you work from home. There is no one around to check your work, to keep you on task, or to whom you need to report. These tips will help to keep you on track so that you can get your work done and get on with the business of the rest of your life!

The Future Is Now! Startups Need To Immerse Customers

Getting up the morning and going out after getting ready, to go to your very own business. Startups are and always have been where the future lies in the world of business. Governments all around the globe are pinning their hopes of better economic output in people who want to be the ones who push humanity forward.

The young entrepreneurs of the world are going to be the main group that immerses their consumers and customers into the future. It may seem subtle as people have been waiting for this for a long time, but security is becoming more and more personable.

How else can consumers feel as if they really do matter to businesses if they feel confident with handing over their personal information?

Fingerprint scanning.

The latest and greatest smartphones have pretty much conquered the fingerprint scanner. The basics are you place your index finger over a sensor which reads your fingerprint and makes a digital data picture of it. When you wish to unlock your phone, you simply put your finger on the scanner again, and within one second, the phone will unlock after confirming it really is your finger. Startups must now implement this technology into their apps. Onscreen readers are coming onto the market finally as the scanners were at first only available on the back of smartphones. Hence whenever your customers want to log back into their accounts, they can simply put their fingers on the sensor or now on the phone screen.

Face scanning.

Perhaps even easier than fingerprint scanning, facial recognition is definitely becoming the most popular security feature. Far from just a novelty experience, facial recognition software is now just as advanced as fingerprint scanning. Consumers now have a complex and rather tall wall as their security. Remember that one day, signing into a consumer account with email and passwords will not just be seen as lacking innovation, but in the social and cultural scheme of things, it will be ‘uncool’. Again for your apps, you can and should implement this as a way for people to log into their accounts. Moreover, your startup can utilize the services of professionals in this field that have KYC, PCI & AML compliant identity verification standards. The top smartphone brands will have their own facial feature identification software, but for a more complex and safer alternative, specialists are the better option.

Voice scanning.

Understanding wavelengths, pitch, tone, dialect and accent are all part and parcel of a good voice recognition software. It’s just another layer of easy yet intricate security that should be part of your protection protocol of customers. You can set the validation question such as asking their name, age and or gender. Once they have recorded their voice answering these questions, all of the above will be analysed. Thus they can open their accounts, apps and or confirm purchases smoother and faster than before.

Let the big business worry about if they are or aren’t up to date with the current security trends. Startups are here to challenge the large corporations, and one way that has been proven to be successful is to bring the future to the present.

Five Useful Qualities For Successful Public Speaking

A public speaker may give a talk at a conference, workshop, meeting or other important event. As with any occupation, there are a few qualities that can help to make a public speaker successful.

Check out these five examples.
:

A Sense of Humor

.

A sense of humor is a valuable tool for keynote speakers as well as other individuals speaking to a group. Most audiences respond to a speaker with a sense of humor and it helps them relax, sit back and listen to what the person has to say. If there is a mishap during the person’s speech, a sense of humor becomes even more valuable. For instance, maybe the microphone cuts out while the person is talking. The speaker can make a joke about it as opposed to letting the interruption ruin their momentum.

Having an easy sense of humor can also help the speaker remain calm and go with the flow of the situation.

Knowledge of Many Subjects

.

Finding success as a public speaker is easier if a person has knowledge of a lot of subjects. That way, the speaker is ready to make a talk about a variety of topics. Of course, if the speaker is not fully confident about a topic, they must do some research in order to thoroughly understand it. An audience can always tell if a speaker is confident in their knowledge of a topic.

Knowledge of Current Events

.

Knowledge of current events is another quality that can help a public speaker on the path to success. The speaker may be able to incorporate current events into their talk or even use a humorous current event in the opening of their talk. Chances are, the audience will be up on the latest current events, so it’s best for a public speaker to be as informed as they are in this area.

The Ability to Read an Audience

.

The ability to read an audience can help a public speaker to make a more convincing talk. If a speaker feels they are losing the attention of audience members, then they can make adjustments to the talk to regain their attention. In short, a successful public speaker never ignores the audience while speaking. Instead, they speak to an audience like they are sharing something with a good friend.

Confidence

.

A confident public speaker is going to garner more respect and attention from an audience. A public speaker’s confidence comes from knowing what they are talking about. Most public speakers are nervous before going out to make a talk, but that doesn’t equate to lack of confidence.

Nervousness can be overcome and subsides as a person begins to speak. If a person really knows a lot about a subject, their confidence shows through. Furthermore, if they are talking about a personal experience, it is even more convincing because they are speaking from the heart. This type of talk is likely to capture the attention of listeners and maintain it until the end of the event.

Lastly, public speaking doesn’t come naturally to most people. It takes practice to improve skills and develop an easy delivery. But, having these five qualities can definitely help a person to have more success in this undertaking.

Eight Reasons You Must Demonstrate The ROI Of Your Innovation Projects

by Jack J. Phillips, PhD, and Patti Phillips, PhD, are coauthors of “Thrive By Design” and The Business Case for Learning

In recent years there’s been lots of passionate discussion around the topic of innovation. Leaders are obsessed with it. Politicians cheer it. Consumers demand it. Investors reward it. And the media won’t stop talking about it. But here’s the thing: No matter how aware we are that innovation is vital for any company seeking wealth creation and business growth, companies can’t blindly charge ahead with project after project. In fact, the very existence of all the hype has brought critics out of the woodwork.

This backlash makes sense. Where there’s a lot of innovation, there’s also a lot of failure. When there’s a lot of failure, there are also a lot of “I-told-you-sos.” (Deservedly, in many cases.) And all of this leads to a chorus of CEOs and CFOs saying, “Show us some results!” — especially in uncertain times when companies can’t afford to waste money on ineffective programs.

These demands for ROI leave innovation leaders in a tricky spot — you’ve got ideas and plans, but you still need proof they’re going to get real, measurable results. You can’t just assume your project will pay off. And once you’ve chosen a path forward, you need to know if your efforts are getting results, and, if so, to what extent.

To successfully innovate — and, frankly, to safeguard your own future as an innovation leader — you’ve got to keep ROI at the center of your projects. Yet most existing systems of measuring ROI fall short of providing the proper system for accountability, process improvement, and results generation.

The ROI Methodology described in our book — a program based on over 20 years of experience and centered around the concept of design thinking — solves the problem countless professionals face of demonstrating ROI on their innovation projects. It organizes data in such a way that ROI can be assessed early on.

Keep reading for eight reasons to make demonstrating ROI a priority:

1. Your innovations may be out of alignment with business needs.

The ROI Methodology ensures this alignment in three steps. First, even before the innovation project is initiated, the methodology achieves alignment upfront at the time the project is validated as the appropriate solution. Second, by requiring specific, clearly defined objectives at the impact level, the project focuses on the ultimate outcomes, in essence driving the business measure by its design, delivery, and implementation. Third, in the follow-up data, when the business measures may have changed or improved, a method is used to isolate the effects of the project on that data, consequently proving the connection to that business measure.

2. The value of your innovation projects may not be clear to decision makers.

The goal of most innovation projects is to deliver value. However, the definition of “value” isn’t always clear — or doesn’t match the desires of your project’s sponsors, organizers, and stakeholders. The ROI Methodology can forecast the value in advance; and if the value has been delivered, it verifies the value proposition agreed to by the appropriate parties.

3. Your processes need continual improvement (and always will).

The ROI Methodology collects data to evaluate how things are, or are not, working. When things are not where they should be — when projects are not proceeding as effectively as expected — data is available to indicate what must be changed to make the project more effective. Or, when things are running smoothly, data is available to show what else could be done to make them even better.

Throughout the project, results are collected and feedback is provided to the various stakeholders for specific actions and improvement, which drives the project to better results. Then, those results are measured while the process continues. In essence, this methodology process uses design thinking principles to design for the results needed.

4. Innovation programs and projects may lack middle-manager support.

Many projects enjoy the support of top-level managers who allocated the resources to make projects viable. Unfortunately, mid-level managers may not support certain projects because they can’t see the value the projects deliver. Having a methodology that shows how a project or program is connected to the manager’s business goals and objectives can change this. When middle managers understand that a project is helping them meet specific performance indicators or departmental goals, they will usually support the process, or will at least resist it less.

This is more important when many individuals are involved in innova¬tion activities. As innovation becomes a part of everyone’s job, the support level needs to move from ‘we are involved in innovation activities when we have time’ to ‘innovation is our top priority.’

5. Chances are, your function or profession could use an image makeover.

Many functions — and even entire professions — are criticized for being unable to deliver what is expected, and their public image suffers. The ROI Methodology helps build the respect a function or profession needs.

The ROI Methodology can make a difference in any profession, and not just those under fire. It proves over and over again that your projects have a connection to the bottom line, and shows the value delivered to stakeholders. In the process, it removes any question about the value of your department or function and its supposed lack of contribution to the organization.

6. Demonstrating ROI gets your budget off the chopping block.

When a particular function is budgeted, the amount budgeted is often in direct proportion to the value that the function adds. If little or no credible data supports the contribution, the budgets are often trimmed — or at least not enhanced. Organizations can use ROI (and the ROI Methodology) to support proposed budgets. Because the methodology shows the monetary value expected or achieved with specific projects, the data can often be leveraged into budget requests.

Bringing accountability to this level is one of the best ways to secure future funding. CEOs and CFOs need proof, and the proof is in the ROI.

7. It helps you build partnerships with (sometimes reluctant) key executives.

Almost every function attempts to partner with operating executives and key managers in the organization. Unfortunately, some managers may not want to be partners. They may not want to waste time and effort on a relationship that does not help them succeed. They want to partner only with groups and individuals who can add value and help them in meaningful ways. Showing the project results will enhance the likelihood of building these partnerships, with the results providing the initial impetus for making the partnerships work.

8. It earns you that coveted “seat at the table.”

The person leading innovation in an organization should be participating in strategy and important tactical discussions at the top of the organization. The chief innovation officer should report to, and be an important advisor to, the top executive. Unfortunately, this is not the case in every company. Being able to show the actual contribution, and getting others to understand how the function adds value, can change that.

Most executives want to include those who are genuinely helping the business and will seek input that is valuable and constructive. The use of the ROI Methodology may be the single most important action that can be taken to earn the seat at the table.

When you start demonstrating ROI, it opens up a new world for your organization.

Because it helps you silence the criticisms that so often squelch innovation projects, more and more projects go through. And because more of those projects are successful, people begin to embrace an innovation mindset. Ultimately, a culture of innovation evolves easily and organically across your organization — and high performance and growth are likely to follow.

Are You Making The Right Choice For Printing Services? Here’s How To Tell.

You may already have a strategic marketing and advertising plan which involves the use of various marketing materials, including banners, posters, and the like. But in order to bring this marketing plan to fruition, you need professional help – especially when it comes to printed materials. Even if you have the best product or service in the world, it won’t get the attention it needs if it’s not properly promoted through different tools such as banners and posters, and this is where a good printing service comes in.

Are you wondering if you are making the right choice regarding printing services? Here’s how to tell.

Their expertise.

There are plenty of poster, exhibition stand, and banner printing services, especially over the Internet, but how do you know if they will do the job they promise? How do you know if they are an expert at what they are doing in the first place? Yes, years of experience count, but so does the printing method they are making use of. If they can offer you several options when it comes to printing methods, this is a good indicator. If they have the proper equipment, they will be able to give you the printed material you require, be it simple business cards or large-scale posters, banners, and even full display and exhibition stands.

It also pays to know whether the printer does all the printing work themselves or if they rely on outsourcing. If they do all the printing work themselves, this is also a good sign since it means they can keep a close eye on the quality of their printed material as well as make sure the product is delivered on time.

Word of mouth.

Word of mouth is particularly important if you are looking for a printing provider since this says a lot about the kind of service they have. If you can find independent reviews from past or current customers about the service and the quality of the products, you may be on the right path. It would be particularly helpful if you can find reviews and testimonials on the exact product which you want to be printed, so you will know if the printing service can do what you require.

The quality and variety of materials used.

A good printing provider will also make sure to mention the quality and variety of materials they use for their printed products, whether it’s special, high-quality paper or vinyl or special non-fade inks. They will be proud of the materials they are using and will not hesitate to mention this to their customers. The more diverse your options, the higher the chance you will get the kind of product and printed material you are really looking for.

Five Keys To Entrepreneurial Funding

by Maria E. Meyers and Kate Pope Hodel, co-authors of “Beyond Collisions: How to Build Your Entrepreneurial Infrastructure

How does a community find funding to support building and encouraging an entrepreneurial infrastructure? The connections and collaborations don’t happen by chance. Someone needs to wake up every morning and care about the network.

Funding is very straight forward:

  1. You have to have a problem.
  2. You have to have the data that proves you have the problem.
  3. You need to come up with a viable solution that people believe will solve the problem.
  4. You need to involve partners.
  5. You need to have match dollars to prove the partners are really in it.
  6. And you need to be able to tell a clear story that will drive results.

Once you get the funding, it’s critical that you execute and show defined results. Success begets success. Getting funding and being successful attracts more funding.

Here are five keys to funding for entrepreneurial support:

1. Ask for Enough Funding.

Few companies are 100 percent fully sustainable in three years. If you are thinking about launching a new project, you should consider getting at least three years’ runway so you can make it sustainable. Make sure you have a well-defined gap you are going to fill. The only way a project will be sustainable is if you are filling a gap. It’s the same as a new company going into a market. If a new company doesn’t meet the needs of the market, it isn’t going to be sustainable. It’s the same with a new program.

Why are partnerships important? Because when you get turned down by a potential funder, you want them to understand they’re not just turning down your organization, but they are turning down your entire community. It will make it very hard for them to turn you down. Think about your funding request as a business plan. We’re seeing more funders looking for this type of submissions for grants. Funders want to know who’s going to manage the project, what do the financials look like, what’s the  product, how does it fit the market, what are you trying to accomplish and what the results will be. Many funders have taken a return on investment approach to their grant making.

2. Find the Right Funder.

People buy from people they have a relationship with, so engage with potential funders before you ask for assistance. You need to understand from the funder what’s in it for the funder. What is the funder trying to accomplish? How can you help funders hit their goals and make the funders look good? Some funders fund certain things and not others. Don’t waste your time going to the wrong funders. Understand their passion, what is it they’re trying to accomplish to fulfill their mission, how what you do fits with  that. This suggests that you are talking to funders, getting to know them and their mission, long before you make an ask. Many traditional funding sources are reluctant to fund underlying operations. They tend to be more interested in programs and projects.

In the past, chambers of commerce have stepped up with support. With the changing nature of federal, state and local funding, many economic development organizations are looking to philanthropy to support their efforts.

3. Approach Foundations.

The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) published an excellent report in 2016 on philanthropic organizations as potential partners and funding sources for economic development.

Local corporations are often a good source of funding. Most corporations have two areas from which they can pull funding: a community relations budget and a marketing budget. If you are able to build a large audience for what you are doing, you may be able to appeal to the marketing arm of the organization.

4. Try Federal Grants.

Federal grants offer opportunities for specific programs. The U.S. Department of Commerce through the Economic Development Administration has funded several initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation. In rural communities, the Department of Agriculture also can be a resource.

At the federal level, many of the opportunities focus on jobs, distressed communities and the disadvantaged. Recently there seems to be a preference for partnerships and grant requests that include multiple players and collaborations. Go to www.grants.gov for current funding opportunities.

5. Tap into Individuals.

Don’t discount asking individuals for support. According to Giving USA, in 2015 individuals accounted for 71 percent of charitable giving in the United States. Peter Frumkin, in the book Strategic Giving: The Art and Science of Philanthropy, cites five factors that encourage people to donate: change, innovation, equity, pluralism and self-expression. It’s not too hard to tie those values to support for entrepreneurship. Maybe your community has a few successful entrepreneurs who are ready to give back.

Tip: Help funders see the results. You have to understand and set realistic expectations. You have to be realistic about solving the problem or closing the gap. Before you even submit a funding request, you should know companies that are going to take advantage of the program and be successful because of your initiative. You should see the benefits before you ever ask for the money.

Meyers is the founder of SourceLink and KCSourceLink and Kate Pope Hodel is project director at KCSourcelink who has successfully launched the SourceLink model in many cities across the country. The Things You Need To Know About A Network Inventory Tool

The computer has become such an integral part of our lives that we wouldn’t know what to do without them were they to suddenly disappear from our lives. We spend a lot of time ensuring that our computers are operating at peak efficiency, regardless of whether those computers are for personal or business use.

Of course, when you are running a company, it is a little more integral that you can get peak efficiency out of your devices as it is then a matter of money. You have a range of options available when it comes to managing your computer, but many people forget to look to the network as a source of issues.

If you run a business or you have a large number of electronics at home, your local network will start to get cluttered with machines. A network inventory tool can make it much easier for you to keep track of everything that is going on when it comes to your home network, so let’s take a look at what they do.

What Does a Network Inventory Tool Do?

The main thing that a network inventory tool does is that it allows you to examine everything that is running on your network and get an idea of each computer’s draw on its resources. In this section, we’ll take a detailed look at some of the things that one of these programs can do for you.

Provides Info.

The main point of one of these programs is to provide all of the data that you will need about the devices on your network and their use. To this end, a network inventory tool will offer several reports and graphs on your network usage and how exactly each device is interacting with it in the first place.

Of course, you can always configure exactly what you want to see out of your reports in the settings of your network management program. Since every user will have different needs, there is little point to being provided data for which you have no use by one of these programs.

Allows You to Manage Your Network Inventory.

Checking your network inventory manually can undoubtedly be a challenge, especially if you aren’t a fan of identifying computers based on cryptic strings of numbers and letters. One of these programs will make it much easier for you to recognize and understand what is going on in your network.

For example, you will be able to put tags on individual devices and attach comments to things that you see on the network inventory browser. Having a bit of extra user friendliness while you manage your network inventory goes a long way towards making it a more pleasant experience.

Conclusion.

As you can see, network inventory management tools are rather integral for businesses as well as homes with a lot of electronics cluttering the network.
